These are great if you don't have a roof rack and don't want to invest in one. They are cheap, and as long as you strap them down tight you can still fly down the highway to the beach. They are a little noisy because of the straps, and a bit of a pain to get on and off the car, but that's the price you pay for not having a real rack system. I drove around an entire summer with an 8' funboard on my car with no problems.

I completely disagree with Matthew. I tried a Block soft rack with cam buckles before I tried this FCS rack with D-rings. The Block rack was less secure and made a lot more noise, though I used it before I learned about twisting the straps. It takes a little while to get used to......
